- Berkshire Hathaway’s Apple stake currently its biggest by miles
- Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister when he backed Coca-Cola
- Nine of top 10 US companies, can you guess the odd one out?
When Warren Buffett says, ‘buy and hold’, he means hold… for years. Apple (AAPL:NASDAQ) is today Berkshire Hathaway’s (BRK.B:NYSE) largest stake by miles, worth 46% of quoted assets, which is pretty staggering in terms of diversification.
Apple marked a big about-face by Buffett and trusty sidekick Charlie Munger, who until around 10 years ago, avoided technology companies because, they claimed, the pair didn’t understand the tech business model.
He's considered one of the world's best investors, so it can pay to follow his lead
It's a grand illustration that investors should remain flexible in their attitudes and beliefs; things don’t stay the same for long, and when change comes, we need to adapt.
34 YEARS OF ‘THE REAL THING’
Yet Apple falls well short of the stocks Buffett and Munger have owned the longest… Coca-Cola (KO:NYSE) tops the lot at 34 years – when Maggie Thatcher was in Number 10 and bracing for Britain’s poll tax riots, the Cold War ended, and Black Box’s ‘Ride on Time’ topped the UK charts.
Nine of Berkshire’s top 10 are US stocks, but can you name the odd one out?
We’ll stick the question on Twitter (@SHARESmag), feel free to join the conversation with your best guess.
