Scientists at Cardiff University have found that two of Venture Life’s (VLG:AIM) mouthwash products can eradicate the Covid-19 virus completely within 30 seconds. News of the exciting breakthrough sent shares in the consumer self-care products specialist surging 17% higher to 100.7p on Monday.
In the summer, the AIM-listed firm behind the UltraDEX and Dentyl oral care ranges confirmed that Dentyl, its mouthwash containing the powerful CPC technology, was involved in a UK-led clinical trial on people with the Covid-19 virus.
Led by Cardiff University’s Professor David Thomas, this clinical study is investigating the possibility that over-the-counter mouthwashes containing CPC can help to reduce the viral load of Covid-19 in the mouth.
GONE IN 30 SECONDS
Today’s excitement surrounds an update on the recently published in-vitro results from a separate, independent laboratory study undertaken at Cardiff University by Dr Richard Stanton and his colleagues.
They’ve concluded that Venture Life’s two CPC-based mouthwashes - Dentyl and UltraDEX - eradicated the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) virus completely within a 30 second exposure.
Crucially, Cardiff University also stated that the ‘exact formulation is also important’; Cardiff University also tested a third mouthwash, which also contained both CPC and another ingredient, yet this one proved ineffective.
Venture Life therefore believes that the composition of its CPC-based mouthwashes is ‘unique and once published, will update the market with the results of the human (in-vivo) clinical study in partnership with Cardiff University in early 2021.
ANOTHER POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT
Chief executive Jerry Randall commented: ‘Following on from a very strong first half of 2020 performance, where all aspects of the business out-performed the same period 2019, we view today’s in-vitro results published by Cardiff University as another positive development for our CPC-based mouthwash range.
‘The conclusion that our leading CPC-based mouthwash is highly effective in completely eradicating the actual Covid-19 virus in a lab setting is important, and we believe should be considered as a first step in proving the efficacy of CPC-based mouthwashes against COVID-19 in the oral cavity.’
Besides mouthwashes, the company’s product portfolio also spans food supplements for maintaining brain function, medical devices for women’s intimate healthcare, fungal infections and proctology, not to mention dermo-cosmetics for addressing the signs of ageing.
