Shares in fantasy worlds game developer and publisher Frontier Developments (FDEV:AIM) gained 3% to £25.50 after it announced a new game based on the popular Warhammer 40,000 franchise owned by Games Workshop (GAW).

A teaser trailer for the new game was released at a Games Workshop store last night and today Frontier confirmed that the game Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters will launch on PC in 2022 on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

The fantasy game ‘will pitch humanity's greatest weapon, the Grey Knights, against the corrupting forces of Chaos in this brutal and fast-paced, turn-based tactical RPG.’

The game is being developed by Canadian company Complex Games and will be published by Frontier’s publishing arm Frontier Foundry which launched last August.

Gaming analyst Katie Cousins at Shore Capital expects Frontier Foundry to become a ‘material contributor’ for the group: ‘Frontier Foundry is targeting to release at least three new titles during FY22F, and we currently forecast five/six games per year from FY23F, building to c.£17m of revenue.’

Today’s deal builds on the existing relationship between Frontier and Games Worksop, with the game Warhammer Age of Sigmar being developed internally and due to be released in the fiscal year ending 31 May 2023 along with the motor racing game F1 Manager.

Cousins said Frontier Developments has a strong pipeline from its core portfolio and the growing Frontier Foundry, ‘helping to create a high level of confidence in our near-term forecasts.’

Frontier will provide a trading update for year ended 31 May 2021 on 11 June.
