THE CANAL+ GROUP SIGNS A NEW AGREEMENT WITH FRENCH CINEMA, REINFORCING ITS HISTORIC ROLE AS THE LEADING PARTNER
The CANAL+ group is delighted to have signed a new agreement with French cinema today and extends its gratitude to the film organisations (BLIC, BLOC and ARP) for helping conclude this agreement.
The agreement concerns CANAL+ and CINE+ OCS. It secures their advantageous and unique place in the media chronology, allowing them to broadcast films as early as 6 months after their theatrical release. It takes effect retroactively from 1 January 2025 for a period of 3 years, i.e. until 31 December 2027, and is tacitly renewable.
In terms of investment, the group's commitment amounts to a minimum of €480 million over the three years of the agreement: €150 million in 2025, €160 million in 2026 and €170 million in 2027.
The CANAL+ group is also increasing its commitment to diversity films (films with a budget less than €4 million). Furthermore, the group is reaffirming its commitment to promoting and showcasing all types of cinema: from popular comedies and blockbuster films to genre, animation and auteur films. In addition, this agreement will enable the CANAL+ group to increase the number of linear film broadcasts and extend the non-linear broadcast period, to the pleasure of its subscribers.
With this agreement, the CANAL+ group thus reinforces its essential role as the leading partner of French cinema and its ability to leverage its framework agreements with major American studios in the first window 6 months after their theatrical release. It also maintains its ability to offer the best of French and European cinema. Cinema is the primary motivation for CANAL+ subscriptions, and the group is proud to perpetuate its central role in the creative ecosystem and in preserving the French cultural exception.
