JD Wetherspoon PLC - Watford, England-based chain of just under 800 pubs in the UK and Ireland - Prepares to open first pub in continental Europe next year. The Castell de Santa Barbera will open in January and be located in the airside departure area of Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernandez Airport. The 1,000 square-foot pub will offer traditional British pub food, as well as local dishes such as garlic prawns and Spanish omelette. ‘We are very much looking forward to opening our first overseas pub,’ says Founder & Chair Tim Martin. ‘We believe it will be popular with people travelling home from Alicante Airport.’
