Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Tuesday said it continued to see ‘positive growth’ momentum in May, with passenger numbers rising by a double-digit percentage and the carrier’s load factor improving.

The Budapest-based budget airline said it transported 5.7 million passengers in May, up 10% from 5.1 million a year before. Seat capacity increased by a similar 10%, lifting the load factor slightly to 91.2% from 91.0%.

Wizz Air also highlighted continued environmental progress, reporting a 3.4% year-on-year reduction in carbon emissions per revenue passenger kilometre to 51.1 grams in May.

On a rolling 12-month basis, Wizz Air carried 64.5 million passengers, up 3.8% from 62.1 million in the prior-year period. The load factor for the 12 months rose to 91.1% from 90.1%.

‘The increase achieved in passengers carried and the associated lift in loads is very encouraging, particularly given the timing of Easter the month before,’ the airline said. Easter fell in late April this year, versus March in 2024.

Wizz Air will release its results for financial year 2025 on Thursday. The stock was up 0.6% at 1,585.00 pence in London on Tuesday morning.
