Ibstock PLC on Tuesday said it has hired former Land Securities Group PLC executive Richard Akers to be its next chair.

The Leicestershire, England-based building products supplier said its current chair, Jonathan Nicholls, will step down after the company’s annual general meeting on May 15. Nicholls has been in post for nine years.

Ibstock said Akers will join the board as a non-executive director and chair designate on May 5, taking over as chair after the AGM.

Akers was previously a board member and managing director of the retail portfolio of Land Securities.

He joined Miller Homes Ltd as chair in January, and was chair of Redrow PLC until its merger with Barratt Developments PLC completed in October 2024 to form Barratt Redrow PLC.

‘I am delighted to be joining a company with strong growth ambitions at such an important time for the building industry,’ Akers said.

Chief Executive Joe Hudson said Akers ‘has strong experience as a chair and with our customer base which will be helpful as we capitalise on future recovery in our markets’.

Ibstock shares were flat at 172.20 pence in London on Tuesday morning.
