SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

Critical Mineral Resources PLC, up 8.3% at 1.57 pence, 12-month range 0.93p-4.48p. The developer of metal mining projects and commodities trading in Morocco is ‘encouraged’ by developments at its commodities trading business. ‘CMR has now undertaken several trades since early December in a range of base and speciality metals. This has led to multiple new trading opportunities and the company now intends to expand this profitable business during 2025,’ Critical Mineral says. ‘The joint venture’s focus has been on low-risk and short-term trading opportunities in order to provide a proof of concept. Whilst a conservative approach to risk will continue, the near-term objective is now to scale up the trading business with multiple small mines that have potential for good tonnage and high-grade products in a range of metals and potentially industrial minerals. With this is mind the management have commenced discussions with a number of potential providers for additional working capital.’

Anglesey Mining PLC, down 20% at 0.60p, 12-month range 0.60p-1.97p. Anglesey, which has base metals operations in North Wales, Sweden and Canada says a local council approves the Parys mountain mine environmental impact assessment scoping report. ‘The North Wales Minerals & Waste Planning Service, on behalf of Cyngor Sir Ynys Mon/Anglesey County Council, have provided detailed feedback and commentary on each chapter of Anglesey Mining‘s submission and Anglesey is pleased to note that the Planning Service have stated their broad agreement with the environmental scope as presented by the company. There is wide acceptance of the scope of the overall methodology, how the company has characterised potential impacts, and with the avoidance and mitigation of potential impacts in areas such as ecology and biodiversity, visual impact, air quality, noise and vibration, labour and working conditions and human health,’ the firm says. However, it says there are three areas were there was ‘not broad agreement and further work has been recommended’. This is in the areas of ground & surface water, cultural heritage and traffic & transportation.
