The Central Statistics Office said consumer prices rose 1.1% annually in August, slowing from 1.5% in July.

Month-on-month, prices rose 0.1% in August from July, after a 0.2% rise in July from June.

The figures were provided on a harmonised basis, which allows for EU-wide comparison.

‘Energy prices are estimated to have fallen by 0.6% in the month and decreased by 9.5% since August 2023,’ said CSO statistician Anthony Dawson.

Core inflation - excluding energy and unprocessed food prices - was 2.3% annually in August, unchanged from July.
