SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

Rank Group PLC, up 7.1% at 75.00 pence, 12-month range 60.40p-99.80p. For the year ended June 30, the Maidenhead-headquartered gambling firm swings to pretax profit of £15.5 million from a £123.3 million pretax loss the year prior. Revenue increases 7.7% to £734.7 million from a restated £681.9 million, while cost of sales fall 18% to £425.8 million from £521.3 million. The firm also resumes dividend payments, with a final dividend for the year of 0.85p per share. Chief Executive John O’Reilly says: ‘We have started the new financial year as we finished the previous one, with good momentum across all businesses. With inflation receding, disposable incomes improving, investment continuing to be made in the customer proposition and a strong pipeline of growth initiatives underway, we are confident in the future prospects of the group.’

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

Capital Ltd, down 4.5% at 85.38p, 12-month range 74.00p-105.61p. For the six months ended June 30, posts revenue of $169.4 million, up 9.8% from $154.3 million a year prior. However, pretax profit falls 30% to $16.3 million from $23.4 million, and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation decline 2.3% to $42.9 million from $43.9 million. Operating profit is down 12% to $25.0 million from $28.4 million. Basic earnings per share fall 46% to 4.7 cents from 8.9 cents. Nevertheless, Capital maintains its interim dividend at 1.3 US cents per share, and full-year guidance of revenue between $355 million and $375 million.
