Ireland’s consumer price inflation rate was steady this month, an estimate from the Central Statistics Office showed on Tuesday.

The nation’s harmonised annual consumer price inflation rate was unmoved at 1.5% in July, where it had stood in June.

The harmonised calculation allows for EU-wide comparison.

‘Looking at the components of the flash HICP for Ireland in July 2024, energy prices are estimated to have stayed the same in the month and decreased by 5.8% over the 12 months to July 2024,’ the CSO said.

‘Food prices are estimated to be unchanged in the last month and are up by 1.9% in the last 12 months.’

The final harmonised reading for July, alongside the standard consumer price index release, is due on August 8.

Retail sales fell 1.4% from May and by 1.8% on-year. Retail sales had slipped 0.3% in May from April. The declined 0.5% on-year in May.

The last time retail sales grew in Ireland was in March, when they registered a 2.1% monthly rise, and a 2.2% yearly hike.
