Shell PLC on Friday said first gas has been achieved at the Jerun gas field off the coast of Malaysia.
Since 2021, the London-based oil major, through a subsidiary, has held a 30% equity stake in the Jerun field.
Jerun, which is operated by SapuraOMV Upstream Sdn Bhd, is located 160 kilometres north-west of Bintulu in Sarawak.
The site includes an integrated central processing platform designed to produce up to 550 million cubic feet of gas per day, with condensate production of 15,000 barrels per day during in peak production.
A new 80 kilometres pipeline will direct gas from the operation to the E11RB production hub, from which it will be delivered to customers based in Bintulu such as Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd.
Zoe Yujnovich, Shell’s integrated gas and upstream director, said: ‘Jerun was a highly attractive investment for Shell, building on our interests in this important region off the coast of Sarawak...Gas is an important fuel for Malaysia and the world, providing a secure form of energy for heating, cooling and power generation.’
Shell shares were up 0.7% to 2,835.00 pence each in London on Friday morning.
