Comptoir Group PLC on Monday said it opened its first restaurant in Abu Dhabi late last month, continuing its international expansion.
The new Shawa restaurant at Zayad International Airport in Abu Dhabi opened on March 31.
The London-based company operates a chain of Lebanese, Middle Eastern and North African inspired restaurants, with the Shawa brand ‘providing a convenient food-to-go option’. The menu includes food items such as lamb and chicken shawarma wraps and platters, as well as falafel and halloumi dishes for vegan and vegetarian options.
The launch of the restaurant makes it the first Shawa restaurant in the region, and the third restaurant established in the Middle East by Comptoir Group as a whole. It joins the Comptoir Libanais restaurants in Dubai International Airport and Hamad International Airport in Doha.
As the second-largest airport in the United Arab Emirates, Zayad International serves more than 80,000 customers every day and it predicts a total of 27 million passengers this year.
Comptoir Chief Executive Officer Nick Ayerst said: ‘We have long recognised Abu Dhabi’s importance as an international air hub and are delighted to share Shawa’s offering with international travellers. Our ongoing successful collaboration with HMSHost is delivering well-loved authentic Middle Eastern food and culture to customers around across the UK, Netherlands and Middle East.’
Shares in the company fell 0.7% to 6.70 pence each in London on Monday afternoon.
