BSF Enterprise PLC on Monday said its subsidiary 3D Bio-Tissues Ltd has partnered with Biozol Diagnostica Vertrieb GmbH to commercialise and distribute its City-Mix product across Germany.

BSF is a London-based investor in biotechnology and owner of cellular agriculture company 3D Bio-Tissues, while Biozol is a Germany-based pharmaceutical distributor. City-Mix is 3DBT’s patented culture media supplement used to produce cell-cultivated meat.

BSF said the partnership is part of its strategy to engage with the biotech and life sciences markets, in which Biozol engages with 14,000 companies, through distributors in the US and Europe.

The firm said 3DBT has also interacted with a world-leading supplier to the pharmaceutical industry, which has purchased vials of City-Mix for evaluation to be used in its media formulation. A stem cell company is also testing the use of City-Mix in order to improve efficiency and reduce costs, BSF said.

Noting that two companies began ordering City-Mix in April, with another set to begin purchasing following trial evaluation, BSF said 3DBT will continue to develop its partnership programme with food manufacturers across Europe, China and the US.

In June, the firm’s cell-cultivated chicken was approved by the US Food & Drug Administration and the Department of Agriculture.

3DBT Chief Executive Che Connon said: ‘We have made significant progress in the short time since we implemented our go to market strategy for City-Mix, with an increasing number of commercial partnerships and sales opportunities successfully progressing across our direct and indirect global sales channels.

‘City-Mix is a truly differentiated product, with key advantages over traditional media supplements and this is now being realised and evidenced across the cultivated meat industry and by global leaders in the pharmaceutical sector.’

BSF shares fell 4.9% to 12.37 pence each on Monday afternoon in London.
