SMALL-CAP - WINNERS

Asos PLC, up 4.2% at 355.00 pence, 12-month range 320.33p-1,181.00p. Asos shares are on the charge after a difficult period recently for the stock. A decent update from footwear seller Shoe Zone PLC lifted sentiment towards the retail sector. Shoe Zone said trading since has ‘significantly exceeded’ management’s expectations. Asos shares are down some 65% from a year-to-date closing peak of over 980p.

Hostelworld Group PLC, up 3.6% at 125.35 pence, 12-month range 66.48p-157.80p. The hostel booking company hailed its largest first-half ‘on record’. Revenue and gross merchandise value jumped 57% to €51.5 million and €339.5 million, respectively. GMV is the total value of bookings minus cancellations. It says its first adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation amount to €5.1 million, swinging from a loss of €5.2 million a year prior. ‘Looking further ahead, I remain very confident that our innovative, asset-light business model is well-positioned, well-financed and firmly on track to deliver against our long-term growth goals,’ Chief Executive Officer Gary Morrison says.

Ten Entertainment Group PLC, up 1.8% at 285.00 pence, 12-month range 183.00p-307.28p. The ten-pin bowling site operator says sales rise 3.2% on-year in the 26 weeks to July 2. They are up 1.6% like-for-like. Ten Entertainment hails a ‘record-breaking Easter performance’, its ‘biggest sales week’ ever. ‘We are well set to continue to drive profitable growth in the second half of the year and to meet market expectations,’ CEO Graham Blackwell says.

SMALL-CAP - LOSERS

Tullow Oil PLC, down 3.5% at 28.90p, 12-month range 21.82p-53.97p. The company surrenders some of Tuesday’s 4.0% share price. Tullow says it produced about 53,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the first half of 2023. This is down from 61,100 barrels per day throughout 2022. Tullow says it kept guidance for 2023 at 58,000 to 64,000.
