Gfinity PLC on Wednesday said its subsidiary’s Athlos tournament platform will be integrated into Playgendary games.

London-based Gfinity, an esports and gaming solutions provider, said its wholly-owned subsidiary Athlos Game Technologies has entered a one-year rolling commercial agreement with mobile game operator Playgendary.

The agreement means the Athlos tournament platform will be integrated into Playgendary games early in 2023.

Athlos will be paid a monthly fee based on the number of active users. Gfinity said the financial terms would not be publicly disclosed at this time for reasons of commercial sensitivity.

Gfinity launched Athlos in August, looking to provide clients with a competition platform to deepen player engagement, to lower player churn and to increase average revenue per user. It said Athlos is currently being used to power the esports tournaments of ‘three of the world’s most popular mobile games’.

Gfinity Chair Neville Upton added: ‘Most gaming spend is now in-game and competitive players spend significantly more than casual gamers. This means our market leading technology can deliver a significant and direct cash benefit to publishers.’

‘Playgendary is one of the world’s leading mobile game publishers with excellent games and a strong pipeline of new titles many of which benefit from competitive play. The commercial model means that as competitive play within the games grow so does Athlos’ recurring revenue stream.

‘This is one of many similar deals that we aim to enter into with game publishers big and small’.

Shares in Gfinity were up 2.4% to 0.53 pence each in London on Wednesday morning.
