The week before Christmas was a busy one for the boards of several UK firms as they offloaded shares ahead of the holidays.

At defence contractor Chemring (CHG), chief executive Michael Ord and two other directors sold a total of 274,000 shares at 315p each on 18 December raising just shy of £800,000 between them.

The shares were all part of previous awards which vested in December 2024 and the sales were made to cover tax and national insurance liabilities arising on vesting.

Chemring shares had traded sideways until 17 December when they fell sharply after the firm posted its results for the year to October revealing a slump in orders at its Sensors and Information business.

EASYJET FINANCE DIRECTOR CASHES IN

Kenton Jarvis, chief financial officer at low-cost carrier EasyJet (EZJ), also sold shares awarded to him to cover tax liabilities, along with other directors of the firm.

On 19 December, Jarvis sold 34,540 shares at 567.88p each netting just under £200,000, while Sophie Dekkers, Rebecca Mills, David Morgan and Garry Wilson sold a combined 88,554 shares at the same price for a total consideration of just over £500,000.

EasyJet has been one of the FTSE 100's best-performing shares year-to-date gaining nearly 60% as consumers continue to feel the urge to travel.

BOMHARD TRIMS HOLDING

Finally, Imperial Brands (IMB) chief executive Stefan Bomhard and finance director Lukas Paravicini both cashed in a wodge of shares which had accumulated under various bonus and roll-up plans.

On 16 December, Bomhard sold 30,559 shares at £26.15 each raising just under £800,000, while Paravicini sold 6,639 shares at the same price netting roughly £174,000.

Imperial shares have gained 41% this year, buoyed by better-than-expected revenue and operating profit as it took market share from its competitors.
