The UK Competition & Markets Authority on Friday said it will not further investigate the planned merger of Severn Trent PLC with Andigestion Ltd.

In February, Coventry-based water utility Severn Trent had announced its green power unit’s acquisition of Andigestion, which operates two food waste anaerobic digestion plants in southwest England. It disclosed no financial details.

Severn Trent said it expected the purchase to add another 45 gigawatt hours per year to its energy generation. It also said the planned acquisition would enhance its ‘energy generation capacity and resilience’.

Then, in June, the UK CMA said the acquisition would be looked into, in order to see whether it would lessen competition.

On Friday, the competition watchdog said that it will not further investigate the purchase.
